First DON’T buy new unless it is a fryer or ice maker as used ones can cause you grief. Restaurant equipment has a major depreciation. A new Garland 8 burner stove can cost you upwards of $8.000 new. A reconditioned one with a warranty will cost you about $2.000 and it will work as good as the new one. The restaurant business has the highest rate of failure among all businesses and is mostly due to over extending yourself in payments or just serving crap food and bad management. As long as your equipment is clean and maintained you can accomplish the same thing and put more money in your pocket rather then theirs. Most equipment does not have to many parts that could breakdown anyways. A refrigeration unit can cost you $3.000 and up new but if you bought a used one that was not even working for a couple of hundred dollars and paid to have a new compressor, thermostat and tubing installed on it. It would only cost you about $1.500. It is easier to get financing for used then it is for new unless you put out a lot a money up front to cover the depreciation factor. Take my advise .Do some home work, and you will make it providing you have good management skills , good food and a menu that wont overwhelm your staff. Fancy new = money lost..Decent used = success.
