Does anyone own their own Business (e.g. Beauty Salon)?
My sister and I have been thinking of opening a Small beauty salon here in Texas but we would like advice from people who own something similar. I would like to know the avg. amount of money that it takes for equipment and supplies also around how much money would i need to own or lease a spot?

I also don’t own a salon but have some information that should assist you further.
The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you’re interested in.
I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.
Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you’ll inevitably have as well as many you haven’t anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.
Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:
* SalonOvations’ Day Spa Operations (S Business Series) by Erica Miller
* Start Your Own Hair Salon and Day Spa by Eileen Figure Sandlin
* 101 Media and Marketing Tips for Salon Owners, Stylists and Managers by Nanette Miner
* Successful Salon Management, 5E by Edward Tezak
* Beyond Beauty: Cosmetology Business Information and Resources by Janie Buchanan
Texas Specific:
* How to Start a Business in Texas: With Forms by William R. Brown and Mark Warda
There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.
Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!
I don’t own a salon nor do I live in Texas, but your question can be answered very easily by: 1. Visiting your local Small Business Development Center for business start-up information 2. Inquiring at a real estate agent who leases commercial property for a suitable space 3. Visit your local beauty supply store (If you are real lucky, there may be a salon going out of business and you can get used equipment cheap!) search on line for possible liquidations. Good Luck in your search
