What are the steps in opening your own bar and restaurant in Va?
There’s a building for lease about six blocks from my house that used to be a bar. It’s been sitting there, unused for almost two years now. I’d like to lease it myself and turn it into a nicer restaurant and bar than it previously was. The thing is, there are two bars pretty close to it, but they’re dives and don’t get alot of customers. If there were a good restaurant with a good nightlife there, it would put them out of business. I may be able to get a "backer" to help pay for expenses to start it up, but I can’t find much information about the procedure of opening up a bar.
What are the steps in getting a liquor and food license? Are there any other things you need in order to start up a bar, assuming you have the building with the equipment? Thanks for the help!

Can these people do this? Please help. ?
I am going to make this as detailed as possible. I’ve tried looking things up, but I’m just at a loss.
My mother and I recently moved to North Carolina after having years of trouble in Arizona. We have very little possessions, and simply planned on moving here with our pets and whatever we could stuff in our car.
For months my mom looked for a job, to no avail. We have very little money available, and we considered ourselves lucky when we found a low-rent "efficiency" apartment on Craigslist. The ad read as follows:
"New furnished efficiency apt with all utilities and even Direct TV, - miles to Southern Pines, Pinehurst. - minutes to Fayetteville/Sanford. No smoking indoors, no drugs. 0 plus last months rent of 450., call — before 8pm only."
(I’ve taken some information out; phone numbers and specific locations as they don’t apply to the matter.)
After months of searching, we thought we had finally found someplace to stay in the little town we wanted to live in. Of course it would only be for a few months, as the apartment was supposed to have a small kitchenette and was located in the landlady’s garage.
My mom talked to the woman renting out the apartment on the phone for almost a month before we arrived. They had the money for two weeks before our arrival, and new the date and time we would be there. Everything was supposedly set up (the beds, kitchenette, etc.), and they said it would all be ready when we got there.
After three days of driving, we came to our new home right on time at about 9PM, tired and dirty, only to find a 20 by 20 foot shed with a small bathroom and cluttered closet, filled with grooming equipment. The landlady and her husband began moving all of their stuff out of the building and putting together the beds when we arrived, as their small children ran around, jumped on the beds, and tried to feed everything they found to our dog. After being there for two hours, we could finally get some rest. We were starving, but unfortunately the kitchenette that they had been telling us about for weeks was no where to be found. My mother cried for most of the night, and woke up crying the next morning as she found that the place was even grubbier in the light.
We looked over the Craigslist ad and emails that had been sent, seeing that we had seriously been screwed over.
The situation only seemed to get worse when we realized they had lied to us about how far away we really were from town. It takes thirty minutes to get anywhere, and they had previously told us it only took seven.
The bathroom is 5 by 9 feet, and has an uncovered hot water heater, a shower "shell", a toilet, a sink that falling off the wall, and their dryer. When we leave the house, they come in and use the dryer without asking (they have a key).
There are no smoke detectors.
They never got the kitchenette. We had to buy a small dorm fridge and microwave, and we won’t even attempt to buy a stove as the room is too small. It is impossible to cook anything since there is no room, so when we get hungry we often have to drive thirty minutes to eat. This is extremely inconvenient.
Internet was supposed to be set up, but we had to do that as well. We had to buy two routers because their children broke the first one, and I had to network all the computers. I’m 16, and it’s kind of funny that every time this lady now has a problem with her computer, she comes to me. She’s also asked me to make her a website, and she even had the nerve to ask me to help her post a Craigslist ad for their old house because she didn’t know how!
They didn’t ask us to sign a lease…and now we know why.
We’ve been living here for almost three months. My mom still can’t find a job, as it is a close knit community and you need connections to get in anywhere.
They have tons of dogs (at least 16) that are always barking. They have them in cages outside, and they don’t feed/water them or clean the cages. When we walk outside we get attacked by flies and the smell of dog poop. It’s just not sanitary.
Living with a single mom can be hard, and we thought things might get better if we moved out of Phoenix since it was getting so congested. Turns out we’re in even deeper crud than before.
I honestly feel this woman manipulated the situation in such a way that she would profit from it. I think it’s truly wrong, as she knew we were coming from out of state, had no where else to stay, and couldn’t personally come and look at the apartment.
So my first question is, are they are laws that prohibit this? Can this woman post an ad on Craigslist that is selling one thing yet you get another? Are there federal laws or North Carolina state laws that require a person to have a license to rent-out an apartment? Would they even be allowed to rent this shack out?
We will hopefully we out of here by the end of August, and we were just wondering if there is anything we can do to stop this from happening again to other people, and to maybe even get back the money we had to pay to live in the awful place.
Any help or advice is appreciated. I’m sorry this ended up being so long.
Thank you.
Actually, we wanted to live in Aberdeen. My father lives there (my mother’s ex-husband), and he said it would be easy to find a job at the local hospital since my mother has 10 years experience in the field. He said it was cheaper to live here, and that we would love it.
We’d been planning for six months, and thought that we had found a decent place to live temporarily.
I know my mother messed up when she chose this place, and she realizes she did too. She feels terrible for putting us through this.
They did send pictures. Trust me, the pictures look nothing like what we ended up getting. They even sent a picture of the lake nearby, saying it was part of their property, and later told us it wasn’t when we got here.
Yes, we may sound stupid, but I think what these people are doing is wrong. They are taking advantage of an already sucky situation, and as parents they should not have knowingly rented this place to a single mother and her child.
Debra, we have called the humane society. The landlady claims to be a "groomer and breeder of dogs", when all she is doing is running a puppy mill. So many of her animals have died in just the few months that we’ve been here that I don’t even want to let her near my dog. She won’t give us a straight answer about what the humane society said when they came here.
They may not be breaking any laws renting this place to us, but they sure are doing something wrong with those dogs. Even the horses are mistreated.
Thank you all so much for your help.
Has anyone here seen that movie ‘Funny Farm’?
I feel the same way as they do in that movie. I’m surprised the mail man doesn’t throw our mail at us.
Thanks again for all of your help. And to ‘Expert Realtor’, I appreciate your answer. You live in NC, have you heard of Ellerbe? That’s where this place is. When we tell people that, they look disgusted that we live out this far (it’s pretty funny, actually).

What do I need to build a conference bridge for community groups that will be housed in my basement using VOIP
I want to provide this service because so many churches have aneed to meet and I wanted to help. Can you describe the infrastructure requirments (in my basement) and good hardware choices for the interface conference bridge. I would like to just have voice for now and secure pins for multiple groups. I only have K for starters and K for yearly maintenance. We expect about 1000 conferences a year and about 50 active clients. I don’t need a toll-free number. I would not be averse to leasing equipment or using used equipment.

Do you agree that our elected Republicans are right on wasteful list of spending?
Your Question
Do you agree w/ the house Republicans-List of wasteful provisions…?
On Monday, House Republican leaders put out a list of what they call wasteful provisions in the Senate version of the nearly _0 billion_ stimulus bill that is being debated:
• billion earmark to re-start FutureGen, a near-zero emissions coal power plant in Illinois that the Department of Energy defunded last year because it said the project was inefficient.
• A 6 million tax break for Hollywood movie producers to buy motion picture film.
• 0 million for the digital television converter box coupon program.
• million for the Coast Guard to design a new polar icebreaker (arctic ship) (global warming equipment?)
• 8 million for constructing the Department of Homeland
Security headquarters.
• 8 million for furniture at the new Homeland Security headquarters.
• 0 million to buy hybrid vehicles for federal employees.
• 0 million for the Centers for Disease Control to screen and prevent STD’s.
• .4 billion for rural waste disposal programs.
• 5 million for the Washington sewer system.
• 0 million for Smithsonian museum facilities.
• billion for the 2010 Census, which has a projected cost overrun of billion.
• million for "smoking cessation activities." (what’s that?)
• 0 million for public computer centers at community colleges.
• million for salaries of employees at the FBI.
• million for tribal alcohol and substance abuse reduction. (I thought they were exempt from the Fed. government)
+500 million for flood reduction projects on the Mississippi River.
• million to inspect canals in urban areas.
• billion to turn federal buildings into "green" buildings.
• 0 million for state and local fire stations.
• 0 million for wildland fire management on forest service lands.
• .2 billion for "youth activities," including youth summer job
programs. (Obama’s youth?)
• million for renovating the headquarters of the Public Health Service.
• 2 million for CDC buildings and property.
• 0 million for building and repairing National Institutes of Health
facilities in Bethesda, Maryland.
• 0 million for "paid volunteers" at the Corporation for
National and Community Service. (paid volunteers?)
• .5 million for "energy efficiency initiatives" at the
Department of Veterans Affairs National Cemetery Administration.
• 0 million for Amtrak, a business that’s been losing money for the past 20 years. ( I think Amtrak should be revamped)
• 0 million for reducing the hazard of lead-based paint.
• million to construct a "security training" facility for State
Department Security officers when they can be trained at existing facilities of other agencies.
• 0 million to the Farm Service Agency to upgrade computer systems.
• 0 million in funding for the lease of alternative energy vehicles for
use on military installations. (but O wants to cut our nukes by 80 percent?)
*If you were voting to spend _our_ money, is this how you would be doing it under the guise of "stimulus"?*
*Kentucky wisdom: "If it smells like a pig, and squeals like a pig, and
eats any slop that you serve it, then it is certainly a politician that is
pushing pork into what they would argue should be a legitimate bill.*
*Note: House Republicians have identified the above as wasteful.

Is my Boss’s (wife) behavior normal? Or should I just GO?
Not long after I worked at a property management company, I began to realize how the husband’s -wife (part-owner) really is…..Tell me what your opinion is….
1.I bought and provided my OWN desktop computer, printer, and USB internet connection, due to the fact that there was 1 community computer to share between a prop. mgr. an leasing agent….Keep in mind this is a upper-scale apartment community….No agreement was signed in which I provide my own supplies…I put in for office supplies, but all are which ignored. I purchase my own post it notes, my own cordless office phone, - extra, my own white out, pens, and staples!
2. I was denied mileage, (.20, per trip, 2x per month, even though parking for court is finally reimbursed WEEKS after I submit for it.
3. Three weeks ago, the owners hired a new property manager, (my title is property mgr), and when I point blank asked WHY this was, the wife replied by beating around the bush, about how this would be possible temporary help. But refused to tell me what her official title was….now I see that it is Property Mgr. - same as mine. Who has 2 property mgr’s at the same property.??????? we have about 300 units…..
4 We got a gift card sent to us by a vendor for referring the new move in’s. Bosses wife was VERY UPSET when she learned that the entire office staff used the gift card for lunch for carrry out pizza luncheon in the office., without inviting her, or giving her the card outright.
No only this, but she is SOOO stingy when it comes to ANYTHING to items left over in abandoned units, office equipment that we acquire from residents for free - fax machine, copier, flat screen monitors, even furniture that a resident offered our very trustworthy employee, which when bosses wife found out about it, (through randomly listening in on phone calls in the other office, - like I can’t tell…) she had the nerve to say,. "If you don’t think he (our employee) will mind, I would like to use the furniture,if not for just a few months…." Yeah right…. Then asked him to help move it out of residents unit to a vacant…..When clearly the trusted employee had a purpose and had planned the pick up all week long…..
To me, this one takes the cake :
I purchased my own stationary desktop computer, which i had for over 1 year, building up the files, some very creative pertaining to work…..most organized, and 2 weeks ago, on my day off, she (the wife) took it upon herself to sabotage and delete all my files pertaining to work….and then let me try to figure out what happened for about 4 hours, before finally telling me what she had done….I feel so violated!!!!! I had never put a password on the computers. anyone has access to them at anytime. her reasoning for doing that was because "if she felt someone was not on her side, she will go after that person and protect her company by any means necessary…." Mind you, I understand there are always 2 sides to every story….but I have not given this jealous woman even an inkling, to cause her to feel this way. She apparently does not want me to have a computer at work, but is to cheap to purchase one for me to do my job with……I am in a seriously dilemma. I feel in my heart that she is doing everything possible to get me to quit, due to avoid paying unemployment….She will not pay a penny unless she gets a court order or a wage garnishment…..but always does meet payroll each week. I get so upset, in tears, on a weekly basis. I am younger also, very intelligent and good looking woman, and I can not help but feel that this has something to do with jealously. The husband has NEVER hit on me, and has always treated with me respect. Another thing is she stopped paying me commission back in December of 2008, and we agreed upon quarterly bonus pymts based on occupancy, the potential to make up to ,000 per year(0 per quarter…..) but since they added 60 brand new units since I started, its been very hard to keep it over 80% occupied now, and recently she stated we get no commission if the vacancy rate is under 90%. I get no free apt,. no raise in over a year.no health insurance, Should I look for something who actually appreciates me or stick it out because it is close to my home?> Help

How do I assess the value of a restaurant that I am thinking of buying?
I would be leasing the building from the owner, buying all the equipment and inventory. The restaurant has hads no advertising and has not been managed well. The restaurant around the corner is doing well, but this one is just barely making it. Do I calculat square footage and multiply by something or what? Help!! I would like to succeed in this and it seems like a good opportunity.

How can I replace the cable company’s modem/router with my own, so I’m not being charged a service/lease fee?
I am currently being charged .99/month for Charter Cables’ "Home Networking Service" (.00 for the router lease & .99 for the service/support). I would REALLY like to eliminate this cost. I have moderate computer knowledge, but this is over my head.
Can you recommend anything for replacing their equipment with my own (i.e. modems, routers, a link to a website regarding setup)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I hate Charter!
I also have already purchased a Netgear WGR614, which is unopened, but could theoretically be used in this implementation. Can anyone recommend a "good" modem to use with this?

I leased a building from a man, i installed free standing equipment, does he have the right to keep it?
I leased a building, in the contract it states that all fixtures will become property of the landlord. The contract was not explained to me as far as the definition of a fixture. (my fault) but, my definition of "fixture" does not include restaurant equipment (free standing). Does he have the right to keep this equipment?

accounting!!! help, please, 10 pnts!?
On January 2, 2005, the Wilcox Studios leased six computers for use in the engineering department. The lease period is for 13 years and the estimated economic life of the leased property is 15 years. The lease does not contain automatic title transfer or a bargain purchase option. Lease payments are ,000 per year, payable each December 31. The incremental borrowing rate for Wilcox is 12 percent and the implicit interest rate (known by Wilcox) is 10 percent. The company uses straight-line depreciation for this type of equipment.
Provide the necessary journal entries to record the transactions for Wilcox for the period January 2, 2005 through December 31, 2006.
I have:
Dec 31 2005
Rent Expense 9,000
Cash 9,000
Dec 31 2006
Rent Expense 9,000

Is this correct? If not please Help!
